  • Bio: Bella Canale (she/they) is a third-year PhD student studying political theory in the Department of Political Science. Her interdisciplinary work investigates how the body’s material realities intersect with beliefs about gender and sexuality, and how these ideas are operationalized across the political landscape. In particular, their current project aims to theorize obsessions with biological essentialism and the resulting disciplining of bodies as expressly necropolitical acts which occur within a larger environment of recognition, expulsion and explosion, in which bodies are constantly on view and in danger of being relegated to a state of death. Bella holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of South Carolina. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
